At the

"2010 Australia Day Ceremony"

held at the Riverside Tailrace Centre West Tamar Mayor Barry Easther presented

"The Community Group of the Year Award"

to the West Tamar Municipal Band. The Band is known to perform regularly at community functions, including Australia Day Ceremony. The Band was originally formed in the 1880s as the Beaconsfield Brass Band but had been out of action several times, the latest since 1971. After combining informally to play for annual Anzac Day Services, local Brass Band players reformed the Band in 1978. When the Beaconsfield Council became the West Tamar Council in 1993 the Band also changed its name to WEST TAMAR MUNICIPAL BAND. WEST TAMAR MUNICIPAL BAND competed at the Tasmanian Band Championships from 1993 - 1996. It was D Grade champion in 1993 and 1994; C Grade champion in 1995 and 1996.


 

WEST TAMAR BAND rehearses at the EXETER SHOW GROUNDS on Thursdays, from 7.30 - 9.30pm.
